Allah Can Change Your Qadr on the Night of Decree
Laylatul Qadr, or the Night of Decree, is the most blessed night of the year. It is a night when destinies are written, sins are forgiven, and worship is more powerful than a thousand months. One of the greatest acts of worship on this night is making dua, and the Prophet ﷺ himself taught us the best supplication to make:
📖 Aisha (RA) asked the Prophet ﷺ:
"O Messenger of Allah, if I find Laylatul Qadr, what should I say?"
He replied with this dua:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni.
"O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me."
(Sunan At-Tirmidhi, Hadith 3513)
This simple yet powerful dua captures the essence of Laylatul Qadr—seeking Allah’s forgiveness and mercy.
When is Laylatul Qadr?
Laylatul Qadr is found in the last ten nights of Ramadan, specifically on the odd nights (21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th). While many believe it is on the 27th night, the exact date is unknown, and the Prophet ﷺ encouraged us to seek it in all the last ten nights.
"Seek Laylatul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan, in the odd-numbered nights."
(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith 2017)
Signs of Laylatul Qadr
Though its exact night is hidden, scholars mention some signs that may indicate it:
📖 "Laylatul Qadr is a calm, pleasant night, neither hot nor cold. The sun rises the next morning without rays." (Sahih Muslim, Hadith 762)
- The night is calm and peaceful, with a spiritual stillness.
- The weather is moderate, neither too hot nor too cold.
- The sun rises the next morning without strong rays, appearing soft and gentle.
- A feeling of tranquility and inner peace fills the heart.
What to Do on Laylatul Qadr
Since this is the most valuable night of the year, maximize your worship:📖 "Whoever prays on Laylatul Qadr out of faith and sincerity, all his past sins will be forgiven."
(Sahih Al-Bukhari, Hadith 1901)
- Pray extra salah (Tahajjud & Qiyam-ul-Layl) – Seek Allah’s closeness through night prayers.
- Make sincere dua – Ask Allah for forgiveness, guidance, and all that you need in this life and the next.
- Recite the Quran – Reflect on its meanings and let it transform your heart.
- Seek forgiveness – Say the dua above repeatedly and ask Allah to erase your sins.
- Give charity – Any good deed on this night is multiplied immensely.
- Engage in dhikr (remembrance of Allah) – Repeat SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah.
