Muslim Hakawati: Our Journey of Seeking Knowledge & Sharing It with the World
"Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." (Sunan Ibn Majah 224)
As a revert couple, my wife and I have come to realize that our journey in Islam is not just about personal growth—it’s about learning together, strengthening our faith, and sharing what we discover with others.
When I embraced Islam nine years ago, I didn’t know where this path would take me.
I was eager to learn, but the journey of a revert is filled with challenges. My wife, also a revert, has walked this path with me, and together we’ve faced the struggles, the doubts, and the moments of clarity that come with seeking knowledge.
That’s why we created Muslim Hakawati—not just as a blog, but as a space where we could document our journey. A place where we could learn, reflect, and share what we find along the way.
A Revert Couple’s Struggle with Seeking Knowledge
One of the biggest challenges of being a revert is realizing that we don’t inherit Islam—we build it from the ground up.
While born Muslims are often raised with Islamic teachings and traditions, reverts start fresh. We have to learn everything—how to pray, how to recite the Quran, how to live by Islamic values—all while unlearning years of habits and perspectives shaped by a different way of life.
And in this process, we’ve faced many struggles together:
- Finding authentic knowledge – There’s so much information, but not all of it is correct.
- Navigating cultural vs. religious practices – Islam is pure, but sometimes culture gets mixed in, making it hard to distinguish between the two.
- Feeling disconnected – As reverts, we’ve both experienced moments of loneliness, where we felt like outsiders in the Muslim community.
- Balancing faith and daily life – From work to family responsibilities, making time for learning isn’t always easy.
Despite these challenges, one thing has kept us going: our love for knowledge and our love for sharing it.
We believe that knowledge strengthens faith. It helps us practice Islam with conviction, it brings clarity to our journey, and it connects us with the wisdom of those who came before us. And most importantly, it allows us to pass that knowledge on to others.
Why “Muslim Hakawati”?
The name Hakawati comes from Arabic and means "the storyteller." It comes from a fusion of two words:
- Hekaye – "the story"
- Haki – "to talk"
The Hakawati is the one who tells the tales.
And that’s what we want this platform to be—a place where stories of Islam, personal reflections, and lessons learned can be shared.
We are not scholars. We are not experts. We are just two Muslims trying to learn, grow, and share our journey with others in a way that is beneficial.
This blog is for all Muslims—whether you’re a revert like us or someone born into Islam who wants to deepen their faith. We are all students in this journey.
You can also read more about it in the About Us page.

Seeking Knowledge & Sharing It With the World
One of the most beautiful things we’ve realized in this journey is that knowledge increases when you share it.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
"When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: sadaqah jariyah (continuous charity), knowledge that is beneficial, and a righteous child who prays for him." (Sahih Muslim 1631)
We don’t want to just learn for ourselves. We want to be able to pass on that knowledge, even in the smallest way. Whether it’s through a blog post, a dua, or a reflection that helps someone feel closer to Allah, Muslim Hakawati is our way of doing that.
A Journey We Take Together
My wife and I have come to understand that Islam is not just about what we learn—it’s about how we live it.
We’ve had moments of doubt. We’ve made mistakes. We’ve struggled to keep up. But at the end of the day, we know this journey is worth it. And we know that we are not alone.
If you’ve ever felt lost in your faith…
If you’ve ever struggled to find guidance as a revert…
If you’ve ever wanted to seek knowledge but didn’t know where to start…
Then Muslim Hakawati is for you.
We hope that through this blog, we can build a community of seekers—people who love knowledge, who love Islam, and who want to grow together.
May Allah make us all seekers of knowledge and grant us the wisdom to apply it in our lives. Ameen.
