MY FRIDAY KHUTBAH Reflection - How to Prepare for Ramadan

How to Prepare for Ramadan: Friday Khutbah

The imam’s khutbah today was a powerful reminder that Ramadan isn’t just about fasting—it’s about preparing the heart, refining our intentions, and realigning ourselves with Allah.

He spoke about how true preparation for Ramadan goes beyond stocking up on dates and suhoor meals. It starts with the heart.

If our hearts are weighed down by distractions, grudges, or heedlessness, how can we expect to fully benefit from this blessed month?

Our niyyah (intention) is everything. Ramadan is not just a ritual—it’s an opportunity to reset, to purify our hearts, and to draw closer to Allah.

The message is a beautiful reminder that we should enter Ramadan with sincerity, seeking Allah’s pleasure rather than just going through the motions of fasting.

One thing that struck me was his emphasis on detoxing the soul before the month begins. Just as we clean our homes in anticipation of a guest, we must cleanse our hearts in anticipation of Ramadan.

This means:

Seeking forgiveness – clearing our records with Allah and with people.
Letting go of grudges – because a heavy heart cannot fully embrace the blessings of Ramadan.
Training our nafs (self) – reducing unnecessary distractions, controlling our tongue, and increasing acts of worship before Ramadan even starts.

The khutbah made me reflect:

Am I truly ready for Ramadan? Not just physically, but spiritually?

Fasting with an unprepared heart is like receiving a guest with a messy house—it lacks the full benefit.
We still have 21 Days left until Ramadan. We have enough time to prepare. In shaa Allah.

May Allah allow us to enter Ramadan with pure hearts, sincere intentions, and the eagerness to seek His mercy. Ameen.

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu!
